20 students from the Multimedia Designer and Marketing Management classes and 10 students from Dundee College in Scotland were encouraged to innovate and develop their ideas throughout a “Masterclass” in February 2010 at Tietgen Business College.
The activity was a part of the North Sea Screen Partnership, where Tietgen Business College, Dundee College and Film Fyn are involved in promoting the national educational knowledge within the area of film, digital media and animation in the North Sea Region.
The students took part in different trips, workshops and presentations about Animation, Cultural Differences, Personal Branding and Film Marketing on the Web.
During the first trip, the students visited the city of Copenhagen, the animation film producing company ‘Copenhagen Bombay’ and the Danish Design Center. The aim of the second trip was to reveal to the students the city of Faaborg and the rural area in Fyn by visiting the Film Fyn studios and two outdoor locations where different movie scenes have been filmed.
During the 10 days, the students had to work also at a parallel project that was presented in the last day. The students were divided in small groups and they had to come up with innovative ideas and a specific plan for marketing a film they had seen during the program. All the students presented their ideas through Power Point presentations and graphical illustrations of their promotion campaign.
What did the students think about the master class?
“Many of the talks were very interesting and useful. Some lectures seemed difficult to apply to my own experience but helped me get an overall view of the industry”. (Struan - New media-Visual Communication student from Dundee College)
On this NNSP trip at first, I was apprehensive, but as I was grouped with the Danish students, I began to enjoy the project work. Our outcome is at a standard that I am proud of and if was given a second chance to come back to Denmark I will take it without hesitating“. (Jordan - New media-Visual Communication student from Dundee College)
“I think that the idea, the concept was good and some of the lectures were good and exciting. It was a good idea with the trip to Copenhagen and the assignment was a very good way to work over the borders.” (Multimedia Design and Film Animation student from Tietgen Business College)
“Good assignment, exciting lectures, relevant visits in the industry, social development, meeting new people, insight in the business”. (Emil - Marketing Management student from Tietgen Business College).
