About Odense

With its 184,000 inhabitants Odense is Denmark’s third-largest city and is a lively, dynamic city that thrives on the interplay between industry, culture and education. Odense is organised with a town centre 'the City' which is surrounded by a number of outer town parts and villages.

Past and present
Odense is the regional capital of Funen. The city is more than a thousand years old, and various museums tell the history of Odense and of Denmark.

In Odense, past and present melt together. The city has throughout history been an important centre and presents unique opportunities for sightseeing. Odense is visited every year by thousands of tourists. Among popular sights are the childhood homes of the world famous Hans Christian Andersen and of the composer Carl Nielsen, the Funen Village and several Museums.

Strolling through the old part of the city’s narrow, winding cobblestoned streets lined with old, charming houses is an experience in itself. Yet Odense is also a modern city with a blossoming culture and contemporary buildings, suchs as the new quarters along Odense harbour.

Education
Odense ranges over the whole educational spectrum, from basic vocational training to higher education at for example Tietgen Business College, the University and several other institutions.
